Coolers from air conditioners, radiators or chillers often consist of a combination of aluminum fins and copper piping. In recycling, these metals are separated so that both copper and aluminum can be reused.
A commonly collected stream of aluminum are car rims. Because rims are mostly solid aluminum, they yield a lot of metal. For processing, tires and other materials are removed, then the rims are melted down and reused in new parts.
Beaten aluminum is created by pressing or rolling the metal. It is often used in structures and parts where additional strength is needed. In recycling, this aluminum is simply re-melted and processed into basic raw material.
Cast aluminum can be recognized by its rougher surface and use in engine blocks, machine parts and engineering applications. Because cast aluminum often contains alloys, it is carefully processed during recycling so that its composition is maximized.
Lacquered aluminum profiles are most commonly seen in construction, for example in window frames and facades. During processing, the layer of lacquer is removed or burned off, leaving clean aluminum that can be directly reused.
Blank profile is untreated aluminum with no lacquer or coating. This pure form is highly sought after for recycling because it can be immediately reapplied without additional processing.
Aluminum chips or turnings are created during turning and milling operations. These residues are often slightly contaminated with oil or coolant. For recycling, they are cleaned and compressed or directly remelted. This way, nothing goes to waste.
